Project Manly

This was a picture I did for a friend. I always mess around and joke with him so I told him I was gonna make the character "Manlier" in a way. This is the result.

I figured to keep him slender, instead of bulky, I tried to make the armor look flexible enough to perform some sort of acrobatic maneuvers (knowing that my friend prefers grace and technique over raw power, although he takes it too seriously) The character originally had a katana, I figured screw all that, Katana's are overused, I figured a polearm would be fitting especially since he fiends for dragons and Lightning. I tried to create an original weapon in the Twin Dragon Spear of Lightning, It would create motion type lightning, dependent on how he uses the weapon, if he swings it hard the lightning would be wide, if it was a stabbing motion it would be concentrated, maybe I'll draw the weapon in action one day.

Heh anyway for the character I figured I would focus on the Knight portion of his talents, the attempts for making him "Manly" was to give his armor some dirt, some dents, and give him a serious expression, to show that despite his youth, he's been through it all.

The Lightning Dragon in the background was a spur of the moment idea, but like most dragons they are overused I tried to be different by making the body living lightning, and using a Chinese dragon reference instead of the standard types... it could have been better...

The smudges is what frustrated me. I inked it first of course, but after about 3-5 days later I colored it with some Copic Comic Markers, apparently the Ink was water based since it ended up smudging in some areas... I think the other mistake was the waist, the bit of cloth with the Jupiter symbol has no folds...kinda weird heh heh *embarrassed*
